This article, along with the interview with Chris Kenny on Sky News was designed to explain how Australia's food supply chain operates and how rising costs of business affect the price of food in the community. This includes the 80K food outlets IFDA members service in pubs, restaurants, pubs and clubs. Rising costs also impact the supermarkets. The majority of businesses in our supply chain are family-owned, operating on high overheads and small margins. Any increase in costs can have a significant impact. Energy costs are up to $100K / month so Australia needs an energy policy that does not impact business and that has a practical short to medium term transitional plan as we head towards more renewables.
